An interactive property temperature-entropy chart for water.

Explore properties of water using the above interactive chart. With this is a temperature-entropy chart for water you can retrieve pressure P, temperature T, density ρ, internal energy u, enthalpy h, and entropy s, by just gliding your cursor across the screen.

Web-based T-s Chart

This web-based interactive T-s chart was an early iteration developed by a Rowan Mechanical engineering student, Christopher Ferry, as part of his independent study. This chart provides thermodynamic properties of water simply by gliding your cursor over the chart. It is best viewed on a desktop browser. This approach was limited by the inibility to read properties in between the provided lines.

Clausius

Clausius was first developed as an iPad app that allows users to interact with properties using their fingers. Simply glide and retrieve. Now it is available on the Mac and on the iPad. Research shows that using these tools can improve the mental models of thermodynamic property relations.

Developing Clausius

Clausius was developed by a Rowan Mechanical Engineering student, Austin Carrig. The app was rigorously tested in classroom settings in Thermodynamic courses. Embedding in the app are quick tutorials that help students learn the properties.

T-s T-shirts

To further engage the students with the content, T-shirts were designed. Students loved showing off their new skills to describe complicated properties of familiar water. This sense of belonging and identity can be the added benefit of what set them apart from other students. To learn more about the background, visit the About page.

Videos

A number of animated videos have been produced to support the use of property charts. These are instructional videos that teach students what the thermodynamic properties are, how they are related, and how to use them. Of course, they also show how the property charts can be used to retrieve properties.
